Carl Saunders remembered
Latin jazz bandleader Brent Fischer described Carl Saunders this way:
'Carl Saunders is on every single Brent or Claire Fischer large ensemble album
since the 90s. He never gave - or took - any BS and was always thinking about
what was in service to the music first,
besides being a good friend full of wise advice and wise cracks.
He had many other music skills besides trumpet.'
As lead trumpet for the Bill Holman Band for decades,
and a mainstay of west coast big band music,
he is sorely missed by every LA jazz musician.
He passed in february in Los Angeles.
