Ariel Gore and Bluebird: Women and the New Psychology of Happiness

Is there a ‘happiness’ conspiracy? The billion-dollar self-help industry constantly promotes the need to be ‘positive’ and ‘happy’. Pharmaceutical corporations make huge profits on drugs to “cure” depression. Do they really work? Join host Lisa Loving and author Ariel Gore, whose new book, “Bluebird: Women and the New Psychology of Happiness”, delves into the ruthless pursuit of joy.

I liked the show! It was highly informative.

I think your points coincided closely with some documentary films by Adam Curtis (Channel 4, UK) called "Century of the Self" and "Happiness Machines" and "The Trap:what happened to our dreams of freedom", so I want to recommend these to people.

Also remember that regular exercise works WONDERS to improve mood in addition to the other things you mentioned. Exercise, like antidepressants, increases serotinin turnover in the brain.

I also totally agree with your observation that SOCIETY is largely responsible for our moods, obviously, one will be happier at a joyous family banquet than in a concentration camp, and this is often overlooked and personalized, making patients responsible instead of their surroundings (also blaming them).

thanks!
