Karen James speaks with Noelle Hanrahan, founder of Prison Radio and a journalist who has recorded and broadcast commentaries by Mumia Abu-Jamal since 1992. Noelle talks about Philadelphia in the racially-charged 1970s where Mumia made his name as a writer and journalist. In 1981 Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted of first degree murder in the death of a Philadelphia police officer in a trial Amnesty International said failed to meet international fair trial standards. Mumia spent most of his incarceration in solitary confinement on Pennsylvania’s Death Row until 2011 when his sentence was commuted to life without parole. He maintains his innocence and his demand for a new trial and freedom is supported by heads of state and prominent politicians worldwide. Noelle provides an update on the latest positive developments in Mumia’s case.
