Based on the model developed by our colleagues at the Interference Archive/Justseeds in NYC, we're going to be hosting a gathering of local artists, printers, activists, thinkers and enthusiasts with the goal of distributing as much free propaganda as we can, in as many formats as possible, to whomever we can get to show up.
The theme of this first effort is going to be Immigration and Refugees- we want the art and other material that we distribute at this event to reflect the contemporary struggles to defend the rights and dreams of immigrants and refugees against the onslaught of idiocy coming from the political power structure, and from the racist and xenophobic elements within this society.
#RepresentationMatters #WhiteWashedOUT
8 PM @ Regal Cinemas Lloyd Center 10 & IMAX, 1510 NE Multnomah St.
Racial erasure is when filmmakers remove the original racial identities of a character in favor of something else. The glaring lack of representation in the media of Asian-Americans (1% of leading roles) is harmful to the identity formation, to increased understanding, and acceptance. Whitewashing perpetuates racism, hate, and xenophobia. Stand in solidarity as we refuse to remain unseen in a protest of the premier of Ghost in the Shell, staring Scarlett Johansson. The time has come to stop a long history of harmful erasure and whitewashing.

Constructing Identity: Black Cinema Then and Now
4:30 PM to April 15 at 4:30 PM @ Northwest Film Center (Whitsell Auditorium), 1219 SW Park Ave
Constructing Identity: Black Cinema Then and Now is a collaborative, retrospective series of films that explore the paradigm of resistance against the dominant culture and define the African-American narrative through the artistry of Black filmmakers. Mirroring the development and flowering of 20th and 21st century Black and African-American art practice, the history of this cinema is a testament to the visionaries, rebels and pioneers that were willing and able to tell it like it is. Featuring key works by critical figures like Julie Dash, Charles Burnett, Kathleen Collins, and Spencer Williams—among many other notable filmmakers—this series seeks to upend the idea that historically (most pointedly within the Hollywood studio system), Black bodies have been relegated to be either background figures or racist caricatures. Here, African-American identity is foregrounded through the representation of lived experience; in addition, the films included embody and explore the Black gaze through sole focus on work made by Black filmmakers.
The full series runs April 1-June 11, 2017.
