Measure 26-218 would allow the Metro Council to authorize a payroll tax to help fund transportation improvements in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties. 17 corridors were identified for improvement, and over 150 projects could be funded with the additional money.

The payroll tax would impact employers with 26 or more employees at a rate of 0.75%, starting in 2022.

KBOO's Hendrik Broekelschen explores those who support the measure as an important environmental and equitable step in the right direction, those who oppose the tax, and those who think it should be delayed, because of the uncertain economic outlook the Metro area faces due to coronavirus.
