Cinemas around the Pacific Northwest are adapting to the coronavirus quarantine by screening movies outside
Drive-In Theaters had become a relic of 20th century America. That is, until the novel coronavirus closed down cinemas across the country. Now, venerable drive-in theaters such as Newberg's 99W are thriving, while art cinemas are bringing their screenings outside.
Amy Theberge introduces us to the Northwest Film Center's Cinema Unbound drive-in series at the Zidell Yards in Portland's south waterfront. Then, we visit with Brian Francis, the third-generation owner of Newberg's 99W Drive-In. Finally, we get a history lesson about outdoor screenings from Thomas Phillipson and Nick Bruno.
