It is two and half minutes… until the next song.
Gareth Jenkins, who hosts Music from the True Vine on the third Saturday, once told me that Swing n’ Country is three hours of two and half minute songs. I always remembered those words and thought they had some deeper metaphysical meaning but did not know what it was.
Recently I read an update from the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists regarding the Doomsday Clock. The Clock is a symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. Maintained since 1947 by the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the Clock is a metaphor for threats to humanity. The Clock's original setting in 1947 was seven minutes to midnight. It has been set backward and forward 24 times since then. The clock currently reads two and a half minutes to midnight.
I put 2 ½ and 2 ½ together and came up with three hours of Swing & Country songs that are FCC certified 150 seconds or less. So, if we are just a few minutes away from eternity wouldn’t you want to hear your favorite song on your favorite radio station? Tune in to KBOO.fm this Saturday 6-9 am left coast time as we countdown to our own personal midnight with our friends Hank, Patsy, Johnny and a few others. Stay tuned for Music from the True Vine afterwards.
