Denise Morris hosts this episode of the Old Mole which includes:
Black Labor in the Making of America: Laurie Mercier talks to Joe Trotter about his important new book, Workers on Arrival: Black Labor in the Making of America. Joe William Trotter, Jr., is Professor of History and Social Justice and Founder and Director of the Center for Africanamerican Urban Studies and the Economy at Carnegie Mellon University. He is the author of Black Milwaukee and Coal, Class, and Color and past President of the Labor and Working Class History Association.
Love Letter to Pike Place Market: Desiree Hellegers reads her recent op ed piece "A Love Letter to Pike Place Market". Written for Real Change, Seattle's street newspaper, Desiree reflects on her time in Seattle in response to a developer trying to build a 14 story hotel at the entrance to Pike Place Market that will essentially destroy one of the most iconic sites in the Pacific Northwest, introducing whole new levels of privatized policing with the attending criminalization of the poor and houseless.
Bernie: Can He Win? What if He Wins?: Bill Resnick talks to Norman Solomon about Bernie, his campaign, the treachery of the Democratic Party establishment, and how, if Bernie were to win the nomination, he would face a conservative Congress, with most DP Congresspeople being moderates sensitive to the needs of capital.
In Tribute: Denise Morris reflects on the contributions to the Old Mole Collective by longtime Mole member Clayton Morgariedge who passed away last week. From the archive we hear a commentary by Clayton: Why Capitalism is Blind to What is Beautiful and Worth Loving — And What to Do About It. In his commentary Clayton shows how some philosophers reduce the world to the totality of facts and regard all feelings as subjective with nothing to say about reality. Capital goes even further, reducing all value to the value of money.

RIP Z"L Clayton Old Mole Muse Morgareidge
Condolences and deepest sympathy to all co-workers, comrades, activist-philosophers and students of long haul ever fruitful OLD MOLE VARIETY HOUR collectivista Clayton Morgareidge on his recent death\passing\transition. May his spiritmemory be blessed and a blessing plus useful to all who recall.
I did not know this professor of philosophy formerly of Lewis & Clark College, yet via listening to KBOO Community Radio and student debt hangover-free radio arts and Public Interest broadcasting I got me a goooooooood edjamacation. Not a gooooood job, but that's another matter...
Didn't even know Clayton was ailing as he kept producing segments and went down fighting with his best combinations directed at the condition of the human condition. This one from eviction plagued and nearly homeless late summer reached me via fortuitious terrestrial KBOO community radio broadcast then at library via KBOO web page audio archive. It also turned me on to a wonderful zine named COMMUNE blogged by previously unknown to me Chloe Watlington

This past summer Clay ton riffed philosophically off of Chloe Watlington's piece in COMMUNE when he co-hosted an OLD MOLE VARIETY HOUR broadcast\netcast on HOMELESSNESS and DISPLACEMENT:

Both of these in-spiring, worthy and sustained efforts to commune-icate the present condition of the human condition sea to shining sea succeeded in resisting depressive ennui, stomach-cramping anxiety over food\shelter\livelihood pressures under predatory caputalism and submission to entropy or whatever the heck this is so many of U.S. are feeling amid surroundsound broadcast reports of an economic miracle ever in progress here. Talk about feeling like we're being "GASLIGHT"'d
Thank you Old Mole Forever Young radio arts collective, as I am trying to thank also dear no longer a'muse-ing survival philosopher, Clayton Morgareidge.
Health and balance throughout and beyond 2020
Keep on doing
