When it comes to food, Americans seem to have a pretty great deal. Our grocery stores are overflowing with countless varieties of convenient products. Over time this system has encouraged us to know less and less about where our food comes from and permitted us to expect more food with less effort. But this illusion of endless abundance is about to be shattered.

On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Kevin Walker, whose new book The Grand Food Bargain and the Mindless Drive for More, looks at the global consequences of America's modern food system - from polluted rivers and seas to human health crises and disappearing species.

Kevin Walker grew up farming and has seen almost every facet of agriculture firsthand, working in agribusiness, at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, overseas with international non-profits and as a professor at Michigan State University.
