Joe Clement and Jan Haaken review the 2017 animated film, Coco, which blends an age old story of a child's torn affection for their family and the wider world with the trauma about being separated by borders. They consider the deep emotional resonance its themes of  borders, family separation, the toxicity of worldly wealth, and integrating alienated aspects of ourselves. You can find it at the Multnomah County Library and see it for free a few times* this summer playing on big screens in Portland Parks.
