Host Ken Jones talks with Natalie Singer, author of the new memoir California Calling: A Self-Interrogation, published by Portland’s Hawthorne Press. Natalie’s work has been published in a number of journals, magazines, and newspapers, including Literary Mama, the Washington Post, the Seattle Times, ParentMap, Alligator Juniper, and Full Grown People, as well as the anthology Love and Profanity.

Natalie won the 2013 Pacific Northwest Writers Association award for non-fiction, and was a finalist for both the 2016 Red Hen Press and Autumn House Press non-fiction awards. She’s taught writing at Washington State’s psychiatric facility for youth and at Seattle’s juvenile detention center, and she’s worked as a newspaper reporter and magazine editor. 

Natalie earned her MFA in Creative Writing and Poetics from the University of Washington, and currently lives in Seattle, by way of Montreal, Florida, and, of course, California.
