The United States is facing a health crisis due to the dependence of millions of people on opioid medications. The burden on individuals, families, communities and the medical system is overwhelming. Those in pain deserve relief and the integration of acupuncture treatment for both pain releif and breaking drug dependency has an important role to play. Acupuncture, a well known treatment modality of Chinese medicine,  has been utilized for thousands of years in the treatment of many common and complex ailments. It is most notable in the United States for its effective use in the treatment of pain.

Can it be a front line non-pharmacologic treatment to pain and help to reduce dependency on opiod prescriptions? Is there evidence for its effectiveness and how might it be used to help people kick drug dependency?  Today, Iman Majd, M.D., L.Ac.,  family medicine physician pioneering the delivery of integrated medical services featuring acupuncture at University of Washington Neighborhood Clinics in the Seattle area is on Healthwatch to examine the options.. He  is active in promoting the use of acupuncture in the treatment of pain and sees its use as crucial to an integrated treatment program.

Dr. Majd is accredited by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. And he's a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.
