WHAT TO DO POLITICALLY THIS WEEK

Here are two featured opportunities for political engagment this week:

1. The Community Alliance of Tenants and Stable Homes for Oregon Families are providing transportation and other resources for those who register to join them in Salem on Wednesday to lobby state legislators to support tenant rights. Buses leave different neighborhoods in Portland at 7 or 7:30am; you can find more information, and the link to register, on the calendar on pdxactivist.org, or email pam@oregoncat.org.  If you can't get to Salem, you can still call your state senators.  (Oregon) House Bill 2004, which lifts the rent-control ban and introduces controls in the use of no-cause evictions, passed in the House, 31-27, and now it goes to the Senate. Portland Tenants United has more information at pdxtu.org including a list of Senators who need convincing—Courtney, Burdick, DeBoer, Roblan, Byer Winters, Haas, and Monroe. If you can't make it to Salem you can phone them every day.

2. On Thursday, you can join the growing movement to form public banks, and get ready to support Commisioner Eudaly's work on this, by going to the next meeting of the Portland Public Banking Alliance (“banking in the people’s interest”). That’s this Thursday, April 13, at  7:30 PM, in the
First Unitarian Church in the Buchan Building, room B302, at SW 12th and Salmon.

There are more opportunities for getting involved listed on the Portland Resistance Calendar on the KBOO website.
