America's Favorite Drug: Beer

Seeing as it's now Oktoberfest, this month's edition of Free Culture Radio is all about beer culture -- which is a task that is at once both simple and difficult, because in many ways mainstream American culture is beer culture. It's so ubiquitous that it's hard to see, in a forest for the trees sort of way, and it's too important to ignore.

So on this edition of Free Culture Radio, we'll talk about craft beer and the unbearable whiteness of brewing; we'll ask why Portlanders are so drawn to beer; and we'll even learn how to brew the stuff. Guests include J. Nikol Beckham, PhD, a professor of communication and cultural studies at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia; and Jason Webb, brewmaster and founder of Unicorn Brewing Company in Portland, Oregon.
