The Friends of The Columbia Gorge weighed in on the Warm Springs Tribes’ plan for a Casino resort in Cascade Locks today. They are opposed to it and would support instead an on-reservation solution as an alternative. They’re  basing their stance on the harm the planned casino would do to Salmon populations in the Lower Columbia and Snake Rivers. It took a trip to federal court to get access to the memo withheld by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The memo to the  BIA from the National Marine Fisheries Service stated the proposed casino would cause further harm to six Columbia and Snake river species of  Salmon that are already endangered or threatened. The Bureau of Indian Affairs released an assessment stated that only Lower Columbia River steelhead and Coho Salmon would be harmed.
