Host Ken Jones talks with Grant Bywaters about his debut mystery novel The Red Storm.
The Red Storm won the Minotaur Books/PWA Best First Private Eye Novel Competition, and tells the story of a black heavyweight boxer turned private investigator in 1930’s New Orleans. The New York Journal of Books said the book “has Hammett-esque qualities mixing with Elmore Leonard smart-talking bad guys with bad-ass attitudes, guns, and punch-power knockouts.” How can you not want to read a book like that?
And to top it off, we just learned that The Red Storm was nominated for a Private Eye Writers of America 2016 Shamus Award, in the category of Best First Private Eye Novel.
Grant is a local author, currently finishing his degree in Psychology at Portland State University. Before that, he worked as a licensed private investigator. Tune in to find out how Grant draws on that experience, his love of boxing, and a ton of research to create a unique fictional detective and a spellbinding story.
