Portland activists discuss issues, efforts to get toxics out of the air

Breathing the air in Portland has been compared to drinking the water in Flint, Michigan, and Multnomah air has been ranked 58 out of 3,200 counties nationwide for the dubious distinction of causing cancer. A growing movement of concerned community members is demanding transparency and effective action for air safety. "This problem is not just a Portland problem. We have a unique opportunity at this moment in time to curb our use of harmful materials so that the next generation isn’t left holding the bill and given the task of cleaning up the things we continue to ignore," says Jennifer Jones of the Eastside Air Coalition. She will be joined by Alma Velazquez, Cully Air Action Team, Sarah Clark, South Portland Air Quality and Jessica Applegate, also of the Eastside Portland Air Coalition, to discuss the issues involved and actions taking place to clean up our air.
