The United States makes up less than 5 percent of the world’s population.Yet, we consume over twenty five percent of the world’s fossil fuel resources. When fossil fuels such the gas are burned, they release carbon dioxide. These gases, scientists believe, are one of the main causes of global warming.

So What can local citizens do to slow the process of global warming?  The 2007 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, issued last year, highlights "the importance of lifestyle changes" in combatting climate change.

KBOO's Susanne LaGrande speaks with Steven Couche about how one group in Portland is going on a ‘low carbon diet’
