TONIGHT at MIDNIGHT : The Outside World aircraft will be piloted by none other than Portland music legend, documentary filmmaker and artistic bounty hunter MR. MIKE LASTRA (DR. AMAZON, SMEGMA, BOHEMIA AFTER DARK, etc)

---HEAR : CAPT BEEFHEART Recorded LIVE at "Ken's Afterglow" on SE Hawthorne & 23rd (I'm not making this up. There really was such a dive called that and the Capt really did bring his Magic Band there. I witnessed this myself); SUN RA LIVE --at The Earth Tavern in 1978 and Luis' La Bamba in 1981; early recordings from The Los Angeles Free Music Society, which was SMEGMA's and Lastra's world in the early 1970s; an historic stoned meeting of members of THE FIRESIGN THEATRE that fateful day they wandered onto the SMEGMA bus and our entire countercultural reality shifted ever so slightly, you could barely feel it; THAT LEGENDARY BUS, parked in various spots around Pasadena, moving just before local suspicions would escalate into potential vigilante threats, somehow became a large basement studio in NE PORTLAND in the mid-70s AND STILL HAPPENING TODAY--where notable curiosities over the years such as John Fahey, Kurt Cobain, Perry Robinson and many others found themselves, perched on a bluff over the Willamette in an otherwise non-descript house.
PLUS out-takes and unreleased sessions of other later-to-become-famous artistes (Lastra doesn't want to tell you everything. he wants to leave some things as surprises) for the astute and dedicated late-night listener and local rock, space, jazz and punk history buffs.
