Interview with Peggy McIntosh

Peggy McIntosh, Associate Director of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, feminist, anti-racist activist, and the founder/ co-director of the National S.E.E.D. Project on Inclusive Curriculum (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity), "unpacks the knapsack of white privilege" on More Talk Radio with Celeste and Cecil.

McIntosh is best known for "White Privilege and Male Privilege: A Personal Account of Coming to See Correspondences through Work in Women’s Studies." This analysis and its shorter form, "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack," "have been instrumental in putting the dimension of privilege into discussions of gender, race and sexuality". Her essay presented the concept of "white privilege", a theoretical construct that has since significantly influenced anti-racist theory and practice as well as other activist movements. Her work predates many other notable anti-racist activists, such as Tim Wise.

"I was taught to see racism only in individual acts of meanness, not in invisible systems conferring dominance on my group".
