The CALIFORNIA state assembly endorsed Thursday a constitutional amendment to repeal the controversial “Citizens United” Supreme court ruling.
In, 2010, the U.S. supreme court ruled in “CITIZENS UNITED VERSUS the FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISION” that corporations can contribute unlimited sums of money to influence elections.
The California AMENDMENT, which passed by a FOURTY-EIGHT to TWENTY-TWO vote, calls on congress to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court ruling.
The California ASSEMBLY stated that it “rejects the notion of corporate personhood” and calls congress to pursue a constitutional amendment to overturn the supreme court ruling.
The party also said the ruling has made it even harder for ordinary citizens to have a voice in the political process.
DAVID DELK of Oregon’s “MOVE TO AMEND,” which is pushing for a similar amendment in Oregon, spoke with KBOO’S Sekoynia Wright to explain more.
