This past week, hundreds of Portland-area union workers and labor leaders gathered at Berkeley Park in Eastmoreland to call on Senator Ron Wyden to take a stand against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. For nearly two years, Israeli forces have been pounding Gaza with bombs on a daily and nightly basis.

The amount of weapons dropped over the past two years are the equivalent of six atomic bombs. The official death toll is close to 70,000, including at least 20,000 children. But the actual death toll is likely much higher, with some experts estimating it to be in the hundreds of thousands. An estimated eighty to ninety percent of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million Palestinians have been displaced. Most of the homes have been destroyed, and in recent weeks Israel’s ground assault on Gaza City has focused on demolishing the remaining high rise apartment buildings in the city with controlled demolitions using explosive robots.

CODEPINK Portland, DSA Portland, Portland Jobs With Justice, and our community partners in the Labor Movement organized this event to say no to Genocide!
