Transpositive PDX – Tuesday, June 17th at 6pm on KBOO 90.7FM and online at KBOO.FM
Join us this Tuesday at 6pm for a new episode of Transpositive PDX on KBOO Community Radio. On this week’s show, we’ll feature two powerful conversations highlighting community-driven solutions to houselessness and student-led trans advocacy.
In Part One, we speak with members of WeShine PDX, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, transitional shelter in neighborhood-based micro-villages throughout the Portland metro area. Founded in 2021 by a group of grassroots neighborhood organizers, WeShine (Welcoming, Empowering, Safe Habitation Initiative with Neighborhood Engagement) builds and operates micro-villages that offer wraparound services, robust volunteer involvement, and pathways to permanent housing. Their core values of inclusion, dignity, and respect guide their work as they strive to reduce unmanaged encampments and support vulnerable, unsheltered adults. We'll hear about their current projects, including Parkrose Community Village and Avalon Village, and the vision for a citywide network of supportive communities.
In Part Two, we’re joined by Paige LeBlanc, founder of the Transgender Plus Student Union (TSU+) at Western Carolina University. TSU+ advocates for the rights and wellbeing of trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit, agender, genderqueer, and questioning students. Paige shares the mission behind the group and how it’s creating space for gender-diverse students to engage in community building, political action, and civic engagement — all while promoting a safe and inclusive campus environment.
Transpositive is a biweekly program in Portland exploring themes important to those who identify as Transgender, Gender Non-Binary, and Gender Non-Conforming. Transpositive tries to connect listeners with the ongoing activist, arts, culture, and dialogue happening in Portland and beyond. Make your voice heard! Transpositive PDX is open to new and experienced programmers, guests, and events you want our community to know about. We are an open collective. Anyone who identifies as trans, gender non-binary, or gender fluid is welcome to be part of our collective after completing some basic free radio training.
