Join us on Transpositive PDX this Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:00pm, as we kick off Pride Month with a powerful two-part program celebrating trans resilience, creativity, and advocacy on KBOO Community Radio.

In Part One, we speak with acclaimed playwright Mikki Gillette and performer Billie Jane Dawson about the world premiere of Tears and Glitter, part of the double-bill Glitter & Desire opening May 30th at Portland’s Backdoor Theatre. Set against the backdrop of a red state grappling with white nationalism and anti-trans legislation, Tears and Glitter follows a group of trans activists who organize and resist. Featuring an ensemble of eleven trans actors in trans roles, this new work from Salt & Sage Productions and director Asae Dean brings authenticity, urgency, and defiant joy to the stage.

In Part Two, we share the story of Ruthie and her 17-year-old transgender son Luke, who was recently denied a passport by the federal government — despite being a U.S. citizen — simply because he is trans. Ruthie and Luke open up about the emotional toll of this injustice and what it takes to raise and support a transgender teenager amid growing national hostility toward trans youth.

Transpositive PDX is a biweekly program in Portland exploring themes important to those who identify as Transgender, Gender Non-Binary, and Gender Non-Conforming. Transpositive connects listeners with the ongoing activism, arts, culture, and dialogue happening in Portland and beyond. Make your voice heard! We are an open collective, and welcome participation from anyone who identifies as trans, non-binary, or gender fluid after completing free basic radio training.

Celebrate the start of Pride Month with us by tuning in Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:00pm on KBOO 90.7FM, or stream live at kboo.fm.
