The international movement to abolish nuclear weapons is linked fundamentally to all struggles for abolition including the abolition of prisons. Persons of conscience have been working for generations to abolish both prisons and weapons of mass murder. Today we visit with members from the crew of the Golden Rule which was the inspiration for the non-violent tactics employed by Greenpeace on the high seas. In 1958 activists associated with the movement to abolish nuclear weapons sailed the Golden Rule into the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean as a direct, non-violent stand against nuclear weapons and above ground nuclear weapons testing, risking their lives and their freedom to stand for peace. Since 1958 the Golden Rule has sailed around the world educating people about non violence and direct action as a tool for building a culture of peace. On this episode of Prison Pipeline we talk with Helen Jacard about the important educational work this boat and the activists who have supported it for 75 years have done for peace and justice.
