The 100th birthday of B-movie director Ed Wood is celebrated in a screening by film archivists Ian Sundahl and Adam Tamberg at the Clinton Street Theater in Portland - Ian and Adam talk with S.W. Conser on Words and Pictures on KBOO Radio
Film collectors pay tribute to a legendary low-budget director

Ed Wood Jr made low-budget B-movies that tested the limits of 1950's American sensibilities, with such outre features as Bride of the Monster, Plan 9 From Outer Space, and Glen or Glenda.  Portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 1994 Tim Burton bio-pic, Ed is now recognized as a trailblazer in underground cinema.

Two film collectors, Ian Sundahl and Adam Tamberg, have amassed a collection of Ed Wood's films on 16mm, several of which are scheduled to screen at the Clinton Street Theater in Portland on what would have been Ed's 100th birthday — October 10th, 2024.  The collection includes short films, trailers, and two of Ed's most notorious features: the transgender docu-drama Glen or Glenda and the X-rated fantasia Necromania: A Tale of Weird Love.

Ian Sundahl is the producer of Repressed Cinema, a regular screening program at The Hollywood Theatre.  Adam Tamberg is a film archivist, projectionist, production designer, and “erotic cinematologist.”  Ian and Adam sit down with S.W. Conser to discuss the oddball cinematic art at the fringes of mid-century Hollywood, and the lasting effects of Ed Wood's legacy.
