Hanford Warning Sign

The Hanford Nuclear Reservation is one of the most polluted places on the planet. Its legacy from nearly a half-century of Plutonium production has left a toxic stew of radioactive and chemical waste that will remain hazardous for tens of thousands of years. But while the US Department of Energy struggles to clean up this mess, there are plans a foot to build a new generation of nuclear power reactors at Hanford, known as small modular nuclear reactors.

On this episode of Locus Focus we talk with Columbia Riverkeeper's Policy Director Kelly Campbell, and Hanford Program Director Simone Anter, about why small modular nuclear reactors are a bad idea in general and a particularly dangerous plan for Hanford.

For more information on Hanford and stopping small modular nuclear reactors from being developed there visit the Columbia Riverkeeper website.
