Please join us for Transpositive PDX on Tuesday, June 7th on KBOO Community Radio as we talk with Debra Porta of Pride Northwest about the Portland Pride Festival. The Pride Festival is back after a two year hiatus due to Covid. We will talk about what Pride Northwest has been up to during Covid times. The Pride Festival will happen along the waterfront June 18th and 19th. Pride has been celebrated in Portland since the early 1970s, with the first outdoor celebration in 1976. Pride Northwest, Inc. has organized the annual Portland Pride Waterfront Festival and Parade since 1994.
The Portland Pride Festival is the single, largest visibility avenue for the region’s LGBTQ+ community. In addition, the festival attracts thousands of visitors to Portland each year, LGBTQ+ community members travel from all over the Pacific Northwest to celebrate, in what is often the only safe and open environment that they may experience for the year. The Pride Festival will require proof of vaccination to enter the waterfront space this year.
