The office of District Attorney is an elected position and in the upcoming May 2022 election, Washington County voters have two choices. Brian Decker is a former prosecutor and for the past four years he has worked as a public defender in Washington County. His experience includes working in three different roles in the criminal legal system during the Obama administration, including serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He served as an AUSA until 2016, overseeing complex investigations into criminal conspiracies and public corruption. He prosecuted crimes like trafficking in illegal guns, poaching in National Parks, destroying protected natural resources, and looting ancient indigenous artifacts.
