RADIO! Tune in to KBOO (90.7 and kboo.fm/listen) Monday, March 7, at 8:00 pm (PST) for a Black History Month special, “An Evening with Julius Eastman.” Eastman was an up and coming composer in the 1970s, compared to Steve Reich and John Adams, but as a gay Black man struggled in the world of white classical music. He died penniless and not a single piece of music was heard until the first recordings in 2005. We will hear some swinging jazzy pattern music, piano trios, and the astonishing chamber piece, “Feminine,” in its entirety. A monumental tribute to a little-known artist.
PS: KBOO is in its winter drive. We need NEW MEMBERS! Please to to kboo.fm/donate now and make a contribution to keep community radio alive and well. The struggle continues.
