Patricia Kullberg hosts this episode of the Old Mole. In recognition of Earth Day, coming up this week on April 22, our segments today examine our options for the future in the face of global warming and how we can organize to prevent impending climate chaos.

Renewable Energy: Bill Resnick speaks with Kelly Twomey Sanders, one of the principle investigators of LA100, the Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study. This integrated engineering-economic analysis underlies LA’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045. Bill and Kelly talk about the vision of our energy future represented in the study and the choices that will need to be made.

Degrowth: Laurie Mercier talks with Old Mole Joe Clement about the argument for degrowth within international environmental and anti-capitalist movements. Degrowth proposes radical wealth distribution by way of a planned scale-down and re-organization of the economy in ways that
increase well-being while reducing extraction, exploitation, and waste. They critique the influence of growth on how we understand what we need
and can do to change our economy, both to avert ecological collapse and realize freedom and justice.

Clean Energy Fund: Patricia Kullberg speaks with Portland Clean Energy Fund activists Anissa Pemberton and Adriana Voss-Andreae about how the PCEF organizing effort has positioned the climate justice community to more successfully challenge the structural elements of our political economy that cause and maintain environmental injustice and have brought us to the brink of climate chaos. Anissa Pemberton is the Portland Clean Energy Fund Coalition Coordinator at the Coalition of Communities of Color. They began working with the Portland Clean Energy Fund as a field organizer in 2018. Adriana Voss-Andreae was the co-founder of 350PDX and a chief petitioner for the Portland Clean Energy Fund ballot initiative. She continues to be active in both local and statewide climate justice initiatives.
