Queer Culture Radio turns the spotlight on Butch Voices

Tonight's show highlights talent from the upcoming BUTCH Voices Portland 2010 Regional Conference, happening this weekend in Portland.

Annie Vernetti starts the show with Train Song. Annie is performing Friday night at the meet & greet at Scandles, and at Saturday night's Butch Buffet.

Mel Haywood, one of the organizers for Butch Voices, shares details on the many events happening. The Butch Buffet event features a wide range of performers and talent. We talk one of the event headliners Ivan Coyote. Ivan Coyote is an award-winning author of six collections of short stories, one novel, three CD’s, four short films and a renowned performer.

...Also joining us is Sally Cohn, hot off of ‘America’s Got Talent’, Sally will share some stories, and perform her butch handwhistling.

Next, Annie does an improv song. One of Annie's talents is taking any 3 words (offered by the audience) and making a song with those words. Carla offers hot, feisty and butch, and Annie creates a song on the spot for Butch Voices!

We also hear from Max Voltage, and comedians Whitney Streed and Shortee Davis.

Community announcements include the AIDS Walk happening this Sunday at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Remember your Roots: A brunch supporting the next generation of rural queer youth is this Sunday Oct 3 @ 10:30am  In Other Words.  A group of high school youth and their families from Baker City, Oregon have started a Gay Straight Alliance at their school. On Sunday, October 3rd, they will be visiting Portland to receive an Equality Champion award for their bravery of being out and proud in a historically conservative community and their dedication to promoting tolerance of all genders & sexualities. Feel free to bring an offering of support or gift from Portland to the queer youth of rural Oregon for them to take home and share with their community – books, CDs, movies that mean something to you!  Brought to you by Rural Organizing Project

Annie shares one more song as we wrap up the show. She sings Rush.

Thank you for listening! Until next time, stay proud and live out loud!
