Monday April 2 is a great night to go out and hear Canadian music. In fact, you can see two different shows with two different Canadian performers that night. And, I'm very excited about both the shows coming up.
To hear these artists, check out the playlists right here ------>
Kathleen Edwards will be at the Aladdin Theatre on Monday. Folk-rocker Edwards is touring in support of her new LP Voyageur (which you can stream here).
We have two LPs in the KBOO library: Voyageur is in new Rock (red-yellow), and her 2008 release Asking for Flowers is in folk (black-brown).
Opening for Edwards is Vancouver-based indie rocker Hannah Georgas. Georgas' music is all over the map -- but not in our record library.
And, on Burnside, John K. Samson and Shotgun Jimmie are playing. John K. Samson is the perhaps the most prominent musician out of Winnipeg. He played in Propagandhi, is the frontman for the Weakerthans, and also does some interesting solo work. Check out his collaboration with electronic musician Blunderspublik and Inuit throat singer Nikki Komaksiutiksak on the song "Keewatin Arctic", as part of the collaborative music project Record of the Week Club on this blog's playlist.
His first solo album, Provincial, is studded with the sorts of gems that you might expect if you are aware of the Weakerthans.
And here's Shotgun Jimmie. I know next to nothing about him, but I love his song, "King of Kreuzberg".
