Edge of Darkness (Playing everywhere)
Director: Martin Campbell
With: Mel Gibson, Bojana Novakovic, Danny Huston, Ray Winstone

Gibson excels in “fight the power” stories, where a little guy goes against great odds.  So it is here, as he plays Tom Craven, a Boston cop whose daughter Emma (Novakovic) is murdered before his eyes by a masked assassin.  He comes to believe that she was not collateral damage, but the target of the killer.
As he investigates, he learns that Emma was a whistle-blower in a government contractor working with a shadowy eco-commando group.  He claws his way up the corporate food chain looking for the reasons she was killed, and who called and executed the hit.
Along the way, he is aided (?) by a mysterious figure (Winstone) who seems to know where to look for answers.  The CEO (Huston) makes Craven know his questions are not welcome.
Standard issue competent thriller with no big surprises, but with gruesome violence.  Shocking, even to a jaded viewer like me.
The acting is fine, with Novoakovic and Winstone edging out the others for attention.  Gibson, whose years have not rested lightly on him, works to his strengths and we feel for him.
Not bad, but you could wait for the video.
