There is a common misperception in the mainstream media that somehow our Civil Liberties situation has changed in a positive way since the election of Barack Obama. In reality, however, many of the same, hotly debated powers that George W. Bush asserted during his presidency have continued unabated (and in some cases, have been massively expanded). Restore Our Rights is a two-day, solutions-workshop and film presentation that seeks to quickly overview our current situation, then encourage solutions-oriented conversation about where we go from here. Our unofficial collaborative organization “Liberties First!” is a collection of unrelated organizations and regular citizens deeply troubled by the lack of conversation on these topics. We are completely nonpartisan and open to all points of view.
