World premiere of new documentary by local filmmakerscheduled for June 22, 2010, at the Bagdad Theater
Almost every time we use energy, we burn carbon. Every time we burn carbon, we heat up the atmosphere. It’s a dirty fact that global warming cannot be stopped as long as fossil fuels run our planet.
We can fix this.
Over three years in the making, “Deep Green” is the first major documentary devoted exclusively to showing us how. Accompanied by an international team of National Geographic and award-winning cinematographers, Portland filmmaker Matt Briggs takes us on a compelling journey through nine countries, including China, to uncover the best people with the best ideas, cutting-edge technologies and restorative solutions to get the job done – if we start now.
On Tuesday, June 22, 2010, the public is invited to join Briggs, the production team, and local green leaders and dignitaries at the world premiere of “Deep Green” at 7 pm at the Bagdad Theater in the heart of the Hawthorne District.
“Deep Green” and its companion animated short subjects, “The Krill is Gone” and “Trees,” created by Portland’s award-winning Bent Image Lab, will have their world premiere on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Bagdad Theater in the heart of the Hawthorne District. The festivities begin at 6 pm with a live performance by Northwest jazz pianist Randy Porter, who scored all three films, followed by the screening at 7 pm.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting the Bagdad or Crystal Ballroom box offices, or online from Ticketmaster. For more information, go to www.mcmenamins.com/events or contact “Deep Green” at (503) 635-4469 (including for group discounts). Four additional showings of the films are also scheduled at the Bagdad the same week: June 23 -24 at 6 pm and Friday, June 25 at 5:30 pm & 8 pm.

About the Festival:
QDoc is the first and only festival in the United States - and only the second in the world devoted exclusively to Queer Documentaries. Each year for four days the community has the opportunity to come together and explore issues of importance to the relationship with one another and society at large. QDoc shows films that creatively and energetically engage the core issues of queer identity - politics, history, culture, family, aging, and coming out issues, queer diversity and sexuality.
QDoc is brought to you by Russ Gage and David Weissman. Russ has over 15 years experience coordinating festivals including the San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, the oldest and largest LGBT Film Festival in the world, and the Portland International Film Festival. David has been a filmmaker (and film festival participant) for over 25 years, and is best known for his award winning feature documentary, THE COCKETTES (2002).
