Job Title: Finance Coordinator
Reports to: Station Manager 
Employment Status: Non-exempt Hours: 32 hours per week
Positions supervised: Volunteers and Lead staff for Finance Assistant

General Description: To manage, account for and provide reports on KBOO’s finances,  ensuring that the financial system functions effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner.  Responsible for implementing and setting up human resource procedures and policies in  compliance with KBOO’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is responsible for  benefit administration, helps staff the Board Finance Committee and is a member of the  Revenue Operating Team.  

Qualifications 

  • A/P, A/R and bank deposit experience preferred. 

  • Bookkeeping, accounting and/or nonprofit experience preferred. 

  • Experience with QuickBooks accounting software essential. Excellent organizational  and time management skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work well under pressure and without direct supervision. Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a multicultural, cooperative,  progressive organization. 

  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary. 

  • Computer Skills 

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting 

  • Computer skills including Excel, Word, Google calendar and email. 

  • Essential Functions 

  • Day-to-day activities: 

  • Identify and address institutional and individual acts of oppression at KBOO. Ensure  there is interruption of the oppression, follow-up and support for those impacted as  well as documentation/record keeping of the incident. 

  • Oversee cash flow: deposit incoming cash to numerous income accounts,  ensure payables are allocated correctly generate checks, and reconcile bank  statements. 

  • Accounts management: Transfer funds to ensure solvency, maximize interest  income, maintain legal obligations such as restricted funds and fund  

  • endowment as directed and create and manage restricted fund budgets and  accounts 

  • Send monthly invoices and statements to underwriters, advertisers, and co sponsors. 

  • Post transactions to appropriate accounts which would include expense  allocations to different departments 

  • Administer employee benefit program including 401k, health,  dental/life/disability, and COBRA.

  • Meet with new employees to setup employee files with all of the necessary state & federal documentation. Keep all employee HR information confidential.  

  • Process timesheets and complete payroll. 

  • Oversee organizational insurance plan, including liability and directors and  officers insurance. 

  • Help maintain the legal calendar for the organization to ensure we are tracking  deadlines and fulfilling legal requirements. 

  • Maintain, report and pay the underwriter commission program. 

Other: 

  • Maintain a comprehensive and detailed desk manual for all financial activities. 

  • Produce monthly financial statements to include-monthly balance sheet, p&l  vs. budget, and cash flow projections for presentation to the Finance  Committee and the staff. 

  • Provide training to the board and staff as needed for understanding financial  statements, policies and budgeting process.  

  • Month-end procedures including bank reconciliation, pre-paid expenses and  payroll accruals.  

  • Follow all KBOO finance policies, including annual timelines.  

  • Assist Station Manager in preparation of annual budget, including creating and  following a detailed budgeting timeline for the year and facilitating staff and  finance committee input 

  • Prepare 1099 forms. 

  • Prepare schedules and provide support to accountant as required for annual  audit and CPB annual financial report. 

  • Maintain computerized general ledger and accounts payable systems. 

  • Work to implement KBOO’s Affirmative Action/EEO plan. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Collaboration: 

  • Assist with membership drive as necessary. 

  • Work with and supervise volunteers as appropriate. 

  • Work closely with KBOO Foundation Treasurer and Station Manager. 

  • Work closely with CPA’s. 

  • Attend staff meetings and revenue operating teams. 

  • Serve on finance committee and present monthly financial statements to the  committee. 

 

Salary 

This is an hourly position, up to 32 hours per week. During pledge drives and year end financial  preparation additional hours may be required. The pay for this position is $21.77 per hour. Pay increases are subject to the collectively bargained  agreement.  

 

Probationary Period 

KBOO is a union shop and all (non management) staff are members of Communications  Workers of America (CWA)- Local 7901. Any person hired will be required to join and pay dues to CWA Local 7901 after 90 days. There is a six month probationary period. This  period is not to be construed as a contract. 

 

Benefits 

Benefits include medical and dental coverage, disability and life insurance, and credit union  eligibility. This position also offers paid vacation, sick leave, and 11 paid holidays per year, in  accordance with KBOO’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. FSLA-exempt employees receive  paid compensatory time off. Eligibility for the pension plan is one year after the date of hire. 

 

Working Conditions 

KBOO has a small paid staff and about 300 volunteers. KBOO has regular membership  drives. They require an intense amount of time and coordination. The atmosphere is hectic  and stimulating. The ability to work in this kind of environment is essential.

Equipment Used & Physical Working Conditions  

Computer, voicemail, copier, fax. Applicant must be able to remain in a stationary position  approximately 50% or more of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally  move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Applicant must  have ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a  calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
